KOMODO ISLAND

Komodo Island


In accordance with the name, Komodo Island is an island that is known as a habitat for native animals Komodo dragons (Varanus komodoensis), by local residents, this animal is called Ora. Up to now, Komodo animals become a source of pride because of the local income from the tourists who visit the island that has more than 4,000 lives this.

In this island, tourists can see the animal which is the Komodo lizard species in the world with an average body length reaches up to 3.13 meters and weight reached 165 kg. Travelers can also see the various activities of rare animals, such as Komodo marriage that occurred between May to August; Komodo middle eat deer, goats, pigs and witness Komodo bask in the streets and in the branch of the trees in the morning.

To protect the Komodo dragons from extinction, then in 1980 the government made the island of Komodo National Park Komodo. Six years later, namely in 1986, received this national park as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. This national park consists of two large islands, the island of Padar and Rinca, which is surrounded by several smaller islands. Total area of national park land is reached 1817 km ².

Location
Komodo Island is an island located in the westernmost tip of Nusa Tenggara Timur province, bordered by West Nusa Tenggara Province. Administratively, this island including the District of Komodo, West Manggarai regency, East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia.

Access Location Go
From Kupang, the capital of NTT Province, tourists can go by plane to Ende, a city on the island of Flores. Setiba there, travel to the city resumed Labuhanbajo for ten minutes using the minibus. From the city located on the western most island of Flores this trip to Komodo Island resumed using the speed boat which takes about two hours.

Entrance Ticket
Foreign tourists are charged the entrance ticket is $ 5 U.S. per person for one day, and local tourists are charged Rp 25,000 per person (March 2008).

Accommodation
On the island is found international resort, several lodging provided by the local community and also restaurants.
